Meaningful activities to use with videos

My students love to watch videos. I use Notebook software, which allows you to very easily incorporate sound, music and videos on your lessons. Any time that they see that little world on the corner of a picture they shout "Video!" (as if I didn't know I put it there). I try to come up with meaningful activities to do during/after the video. When I use real world videos, with language that is beyond what they know, I encourage my students to shout out the words they understand. This is good preparation for that valuable skill, understanding the message without understanding every word.
On the video below you can see another example. I showed my first graders a video from Mexico, in which a girl prepares fruit skewers. After that, students go to the board to prepare their own "virtual" skewer.
