How do you reinforce language when you only see your students 3 times a week for half an hour? Years ago I created a webpage where I have been adding activities I made and others I have found on the web. I also have made videos using pictures of my Notebook presentations on Voice Thread. I tell my students that is like having Señora Bernad at home for extra Spanish class!
But, that does not mean that students will go there once they know about it. Once a quarter I send home information about what we learn and resources they can find on my website. I also go to the website in the classroom to show them where to go and what fun things they can do at home.
An idea that I got from a colleague of mine is a reward system for practicing Spanish at home. My students have a sticker chart to be filled out; once they fill it out they can get a prize. I send home work that we have done at school so that they can "teach" or practice Spanish with their family. Family members sign it and return it to school. Some of my very motivated students have even used Skype to teach other family members! I have seen improvement since I started using these strategies.
